Eric Manbossia has created a psychotherapy group using the Seeking Safety model for African-American males with substance use and Trauma in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. He partnered with the Tom Waddell Urban Health Center to gain referrals and conduct needs-assessment interviews. From these interviews, he learned that the Tenderloin neighborhood is a food desert, and has successfully contracted a minority-owned businesses to provide food every week during his group. He is also actively engaged with revising how the group is advertised, in order to minimize stigma and stereotypes associated with substance use in San Francisco which often prevents people from seeking help.
